This is Roy Ashburn, a Republican California State Senator, was arrested yesterday for drunk driving while leaving a Sacramento gay bar with a trick in the car! But look at these pictures. How did he stay closeted for so long?
Ashburn, who represents parts of Kern, Tulare and San Bernardino counties in Southern California, was bagged leaving Faces, a gay bar in the state capitol that has a name only a gay bar in a modestly-sized urban area could have. There was another male in the car who was let go. He was uninjured but reportedly suffered a severe case of blue balls. Ashburn was arrested for driving under the influence and driving with a blood alcohol level higher than .08% and released on bail. This is his mug shot, there's also some video. Equality California, the states gay civil rights group, gives him a zero rating for voting against every gay measure that has come before him in office, both in the Senate and the State Assembly. Naturally he's followed the pre-established trajectory for this sort of thing, he's already issued an apology.
"I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment. I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me – my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate."
But based on these other photos we found, it shouldn't be a shock to anyone that Ashburn was gay.

Here is Ashburn (left) congratulating John Perez, the first openly-gay politician to lead a legislative body. Is that love in Perez' eyes?
Ashburn (right) greets Darrell Steinberg, the president of the state Senate, who hasn't seen since Jockstrap Night at the Sacramento Eagle.
Here he is getting ready to kiss fellow Senator Abel Moldonado.
"That's the biggest one I've ever seen! What, guys? I meant the budget deficit. Gosh!"
