Bernie Madoff's Beach House Sale Closes At $9.4M: Better Than Expected! [Real Estate]

Bernie Madoff's Montauk digs went for $9.4M! Originally listed at $8.4M, the Corcoran Group's apparently the U.S. Marshalls' favorite real estate agency. Proceeds go straight into to a Madoff victims fund, no word on the buyer. But the quotes? Priceless. Via ABC News, just enjoy these : "As soon as you walk into it, there is an understated elegance you don't see from the outside." - Roland Ubaldo of the Southern District of New York Marshal Service "Buyers were extremely enthusiastic about the location of the house and its potential and not at all put off by the fact that it was Bernie Madoff 's house." - Pamela Liebman, CEO of Corcoran group real estate. "People recognized the value of the property, the home, the incomparable views and nice, easy access to the beach ." - Joan Hegner, the broker who ran the sale. So, you know, just like every other real estate sale in which the buyers do not want you to have any idea

Obama 'Hope' Poster Artist Shepard Fairey Lied In Court, Lied To Bloggers, Covered Up Evidence [Perjury]

Contemporary artist Shepard Fairey got sued by the Associated Press for not meeting Fair Use standards when using their photo of Barack Obama as the inspiration for his infamous "Hope" poster. And now he's fessing up: Fairey lied in court . It's old hat that Fairey's been embattled in a court case over fair use, the idea that something like an image can be used in the context of news if it doesn't sap value from the source's original work. That source, in this case, being the wire news behemoth Associated Press, who are more or less trying to find away to put a price on information so blogs and the like can't take "their" news and do stuff with it like talk about it. But for the time being, Fairey's the guy the AP's suing the pants off of because he's a high profile figure who created a high profile piece of art from their high profile photgraph. And they want some of that young, idealistic money shelled out to Fairey, wh

Sasstasstic Amy Sacco Shoots Shuttering Rumors Down: Bungalow 8's Coming Back [Nightlife]

According to gossips, Amy Sacco 's always been broke, and her legendary New York club Bungalow 8 , which hasn't been open for a month, is dead. Wednesday night, the (heart)beat supposedly stopped . Now, Sacco's hitting back with excuses. They are? This morning, Page Six reported the following quote from Amy herself : "I have no idea where these rumors are coming from. We are really just renovating the space . . . It's just taking a lot longer than I had planned." It's kinda like what Eater's Ben Leventhal reported on Friday! "I just finally got the blockade reopened on the block after 3 long years! I am redoing the entire space to give it a facelift, that's really all. I am not closing.." Which kinda corroborates a report someone else put together Thursday night! The neighborhood's shed some of its worst clubs over the last year or so (Home, Guesthouse, Prime, and less recently: Stereo) and Sacco seems to be trying t

Scientists Developing Telepathic Communication, Ad Models and Monetization Forthcoming [Mutant Powers]

British science nerds have invented a way to transmit specific brain signals between two different parties' heads. They claim this is paving the way towards telepathy. I'm thinking of a number between one and 2,000, winner gets nothing. [ Telegraph ] Published by Original source :

Marge Simpson's Playboy Spread: Creepily Fanboyish [Nude_Shots]

If you're going to have to report on someone's nude spread, I guess I'm more comfortable objectifying Marge Simpson than an actual human being.
