Migrating from Posterous to WordPress

Migrating from Posterous to WordPress  阅读原文»

Posterous to WordPress

As I have tried on the the current 0.7 version of Posterous importer is not compatible with the latest WordPress 3.2.1 version. Hence, I have to use tools from WordPress.com and use it as a medium of bridge to import and export to Posterous. But you will need to register yourself on WordPress.com and get a blog if you do not have any.

  1. Once you are in the WordPress.com Dashboard page, select Tools > Import > Posterous
  2. Enter your hostname and also the username which in this case is the email that you registered for your Posterous and enter the password.WordPress to Posterous Migration
  3. Click Submit, it will then validate whether it’s correct or not. If all the data entered are correct, the importer status will be out and it will show the amount of posts and other information being transfered.

After using WordPress.com as a medium of bridge to export Posterous XML file, follow the export and import steps like how it was shown in WordPress.com to WordPress guidelines and you will be able to migrate all your Posterous posts into your self-hosted WordPress.

For the further steps, please refer the post onhow to migrate using WordPress.com to self-hosted WordPress.

Blogger to WordPress

For those who has been blogging in Blogger or Blogspot and would like to switch to self-hosted WordPress(best of all blogging platform), these are the following steps you need to follow:

  1. Login to your self-hosted WordPress Dashboard.
  2. Go to Tools > Import.
  3. Select on Blogger. It will prompt you for the Blogger Importer plugins and just click Install. Or you can manually install it fromhttp://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/blogger-importer/Blogger Importer plugins
  4. After installing the Blogger Importer plugins, go back to the Tools > Import and click Blogger and you will see this page below.Authorize Blogger Importer
  5. Click Authorize and you will have the authentication between WordPress and Google Blogger account that you have. After this, you will be prompted to grant access. Click Grant access to proceed.Google Account Authorization
  6. After clicking the Grant access, you will go to the import page that looks like a snapshot below where the import process will take place if you click the import button.

  7. After the import process, the set authors button will appear. By clicking the set authors button, you will see a page that looks like the snapshot below and you may configure the author according to your desired preferences.
  8. After this, click Save changes and you havesuccessfullyimported your blogpost from Blogger to WordPress.

Notice: Some XML files that are being imported directly from Blogger’s blog tools may face some incompatibility issue after being implemented in WordPress therefore there’s another solution whereby the downloaded XML files from Blogger have to undergo a conversion tool through this linkhttp://blogger2wordpress.appspot.com/where it is converted to WXR files for enhanced import to WordPress.

On my next post, I will be writing on the migration from Posterous to self-hosted WordPress. Stay tuned and please subscribe to our blog’s RSS to get update on our blog and WordPress tips.

New Theme: Next Saturday

New Theme: Next Saturday  阅读原文»

I’m pleased to announce our newest theme ― Next Saturday. That is, the theme called “Next Saturday” launches today (not next weekend). With its rich, bright colors, three-dimensional blocks, and subtle shadows, Ian Mintz’s Next Saturday brings a touch of childlike innocence to your blog.

The Next Saturday Theme

The Next Saturday Theme

Next Saturday was designed especially with Post Formats in mind. The theme supports seven post formats — quote, aside, image, gallery, chat, audio and video. Many of these post formats receive special styling so that they “pop” out from the rest of your content. To read all about Next Saturday’s features, stop by the Theme Showcase.

New Theme: Chapters  阅读原文»

If you've wanted to promote a book, this unique design is a perfect match. It's called Chapters and it's the latest in a series of terrific themes from Woo Themes.

The Chapters Theme

Chapters was originally designed by uber-designer, Tim van Damme, and was used to to promote the book "Rockstar Business". The unique design of this great theme makes reading a blog post feel like you are reading a chapter in a book. The top chapter number gives an overview of the chapters and also a visual bookmark of the post you are currently viewing.

You are also able to customize your Chapters with a lot of features like the other premium themes available on WordPress.com.

Chapters is available for the lifetime of your blog for $45. Read more about the Chapters features or preview it live on your blog from Appearance → Themes.

Timthumb Security Update

Timthumb Security Update  阅读原文»

We have received an email from Nick Roachandtoday on the security update on all ElegantThemes premium themes caused by the Timthumb image re-sizing script. In case they might have miss out Nick’s email, here is the email

Hello,

You are receiving this email because you are an active member ofElegantThemes.com. In the past, our themes have used a popular image re-sizing script called Timthumb (http://www.binarymoon.co.uk/projects/timthumb/). The script is used by millions of sites and is quite popular in the WordPress themeing community. That being said, it was noted yesterday that a vulnerability exists within certain versions of the script (http://code.google.com/p/timthumb/issues/detail?id=212), and therefore this vulnerability may also exist in your theme (depending on when you last updated it). While that author has provided a fix, it is highly recommended that you update all of your EelgantThemes themes to their latest versions. The latest versions of our themes no longer utilize the timthumb script and therefore are not subject to this security hole.

Regardless of when you last updated your theme, I would strongly suggest that everyone update their themes to the latest version and insure that the timthumb.php file and your /cache folder has been removed. To update your theme and remove the file, simply delete your current theme via the Appearances > Themes section of the WordPress Dashboard. Then you can re-download the theme from the members area and re-upload it normally:

https://www.elegantthemes.com/members-area/documentation.html#installdashboard

The latest theme versions require that your thumbnail images be hosted on the same domain name where WordPress is installed. If you were previously using timthumb.php to allow external image source by editing the file's $allowedSites array, then these thumbnails will no longer function.

Before updating the theme, make sure that you are using the latest version of WordPress. I would also disable all of your plugins temporarily before doing any update to insure that no compatibility issues exist. Remember to always keep WordPress, your Themes and your Plugins up-to-date to help protect yourself against any vulnerabilities.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused.

Best Regards,
Nick Roach
www.ElegantThemes.com

Meanwhile, we have also received another email from VaultPressteamwhereby the security vulnerability can be fixed by referring to steps as below.

We recommend deleting timthumb.php or thumb.php if your site will work without them. If the file exists in a theme or plugin that you're no longer using you may want to remove the entire theme or plugin directory. After you remove the TimThumb library make sure you check that your site is still working correctly.

If you must use TimThumb please make sure to update the file with thelatest versionand remember to check the TimThumb site regularly for updates. You should also setALLOW_EXTERNALtofalseand find the$allowedSitesarray inside the file and remove the domain names to prevent remote file downloading.

Make sure this constant is set to false:

define( 'ALLOW_EXTERNAL', false );

Before:

$allowedSites = array ( 'flickr.com', 'picasa.com', 'img.youtube.com', 'upload.wikimedia.org', );

After:

$allowedSites = array();

If you ever need our assistance on this security update, please contact our technical team at support@wpwebhost.com.
